Discover! Industry Insights
A series of online careers events and activities providing students aged 16+ with in-depth insight into specific job roles across the cultural sector.
The Discover! Industry Insight events have been designed to give students aged 16 – 24 an opportunity to understand specific job functions within the cultural sector by providing interactions with real employers who will guide them through a ‘deep dive’ of various roles through online events, resources and takeaway tasks.
The events are shaped and led by industry, with support from Creative & Cultural Skills, so each one will be different and respond directly to the types of occupations they’ll be covering.
They will include:
- Live online events such as virtual tours, webinars and workshops
- Documentary-style films providing a ‘deep dive’ into specific occupations
- Online live Q&As where students will be able to submit questions to industry professionals
- Resources that can be taken back to the classroom and support new skills development once the students have experienced the Industry Insight event
The pilot programme will take place between 10th - 21st May 2021 and will cover the following areas:
Offstage and Scenic Production with Industry Insights led by White Light, Royal Opera House Production Workshop and Birmingham Repertory Company
World of Making with Industry Insights led by Devon Guild and Rush Matters

Since launching in 2019, Discover! Creative Careers has reached over 200,000 young people through a programme of events and online resources designed to inspire and inform young people from all backgrounds about creative careers. This includes the DiscoverCreative.Careers website, home to a suite of films, lesson plans and a student-led careers finder.
While the majority of the resources have been created for younger students aged 11 – 16, the following areas may be useful in preparation for the Discover! Industry Insight day:
- Lesson plan: Introducing the creative industries
- Lesson plan: Finding a role for you (an introduction to the careers finder)
