14–19 Creative & Media Diploma

The Creative & Media Diploma is one of the first five new lines of learning which will be available to learners aged 14–19 from September, 2008.

It will provide an alternative education route for those interested in pursuing a more vocationally-focused qualification. The Diploma will combine theoretical and academic knowledge with practical skills and other essential soft skills. Learners who achieve the Diploma will be able to progress into higher education, further education, training or possibly employment.

The development of the Creative & Media Diploma is being led by Skillset, with Creative & Cultural Skills and Skillfast-UK as partners supporting the process.

The Creative and Media Diploma will:

  • provide a broad, applied learning programme delivered in the context of the creative and media sectors
  • be inspirational and aspirational, appealing to the most able as much as to those not engaged with existing school and college-based qualifications
  • be acknowledged and valued by both employers and Higher Education, recognising its credibility and its parity to the traditional GCSE and A-Level offer
  • incorporate creative approaches to applied and work-related learning, industry-devised learning outcomes and innovative models of assessment, creating a world class qualification that is relevant, robust, and a real alternative.
