Understanding our industries

The creative and cultural industries are complicated. How do you define a sector that covers theatre directors and artists to music publishers and taxidermists! Until now, no reliable data has been available. We carried out the first baseline study of Advertising, Cultural heritage, Design, Music and the Performing, Visual and Literary Arts in 2006. We called this "The Footprint 06/07" as it is a comprehensive map of how these industries work. For anybody looking for authoritative data on the creative & cultural sector, the Footprint is an invaluable resource.

Our research underpins everything we do. We can't develop practical solutions to the skill issues facing our sectors without knowing where the gaps are. The next step up from our Footprint is the Creative Blueprint. This is the action plan that sets out what workforce skills are needed now and in the future.

So what do you do? If creativity plays a big role in your life, it's probably not an easy question to answer. If you work in the creative industries, it's probably even harder. Re-working concepts, information, ideas and knowledge for a living often doesn't lend itself to a job title that adequately explains what you do.
