What Creative & Cultural Skills represents
We work with trade associations, businesses and employers in recording/labels companies, music publishers, musical instruments, audio production and retail, live events and promotion, music retailers and not-for-profit music organisation, as well as music education and training providers. The live music sector comes under the umbrella of our Performing Arts work.
Music research: UK Music Skills Audit
We are currently working with UK Music, the umbrella organisation representing the UK’s commercial music industry, to research the future skills needs of the sector. To have your say, please follow the survey link on the right.
Our work with the sector
- We have launched the National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural Skills , which is currently addressing the backstage and offstage skills needs of the live music industry
- We have developed careers advice specifically for the music sector on our website Creative Choices°
- We offer craft employers the chance to take on an Apprentice in a wide range of areas, including Creative Apprenticeship pathways at Levels 2 and 3 in Music Business and Live Events and Promotion, through our Apprenticeship Training Service
- Leadership development opportunities are on offer through the Cultural Leadership Programme , the Creative & Cultural Skills Scotland Leadership Programme , the Creative & Cultural Skills Northern Ireland Leadership Programme , and the Advanced Leadership in the Creative Industries programme
- We have developed an online directory of training opportunities in partnership with BPI
- We have developed National Occupational Standards in the areas of music publishing, the recording industry, live events and collecting societies.
- We have worked to include relevant music content within the 14-19 Diploma in Creative & Media
- We produce research about the music sector, including its size, its contribution to the economy, and demographic data
- We are developing a new strategy to reform qualifications in the music sector
