"We are looking to Creative & Cultural Skills to support us in identifying and tackling the skills needs, now and for the future. Recovery from recession will be tough and it is essential that organisations continue to invest in skills at all levels; Creative & Cultural Skills, working closely with us and with adjacent Sector Skills Councils, provides a vital resource for the cultural sector, both for the workforce and for employers."

Roy Clare, Chief Executive, Museums, Libraries and Archives Council

“Creative & Cultural Skills has made extraordinary progress for the industry over the last five years – new investment in a National Skills Academy, a new Apprenticeship programme, new research, new online careers advice through Creative Choices°. I’m looking forward to seeing what they can achieve in the next five years.”
Richard Pulford, Chief Executive, Society of London Theatres

Relicensing

During late 2008 and throughout 2009 all 25 Sector Skills Councils have been subjected to third party assessment via the National Audit Office and the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) who will consider their performance to date and future ambition with regards to a new core remit, which is to:

  • raise employer engagement, demand and investment in skills
  • ensure supply of authoritative labour market information
  • develop national occupational standards and ensure qualifications meet employer needs

Feedback from employers was collected via the UKCES website and will inform the work we do in the future. We would like to thank all of you who took part - the online feedback element of this process has now closed.

Update

The Government has announced that Creative & Cultural Skills has been awarded a new licence to support the skills needs of the creative and cultural industries. This comes after a comprehensive relicensing process commissioned by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills, with independent assessments carried out by the National Audit Office across all Sector Skills Councils.

We were praised for our “strong partnership working” and “effective lobbying” on behalf of the sectors we represent. Our research was identified as a key area of strength, as were our projects, such as Creative Apprenticeships and Creative Choices°, which were singled out as “skills solutions which are clearly linked to employer’s needs”. Creative & Cultural Skills was also pinpointed for “leveraging investment in skills for the sector”.

Our performance to date

We assess our own performance quarterly with our self assessments being discussed with the Board of Trustees and UKCES to review progress.

Our latest self assessment reports are here:

Feedback from our employers and stakeholders

It is important to us that we genuinely represent the sectors we serve and give them the chance to feed back on our work to date. Step Ahead Research was commissioned by Creative & Cultural Skills to undertake an industry and stakeholder satisfaction survey in 2008.

As part of our continuous improvement plan we have reviewed the results with our Board of Trustees and are putting in place an action plan to drive up our performance, and respond to any specific feedback we received.

"Creative & Cultural Skills’ support of the Design Skills Alliance has helped us to inspire students, bring designers into the classroom and grow Britain’s next generation of design talent. We’re delighted that this work has been widely recognised and their licence has been renewed, and we look forward to continuing to work closely in the next five years."

Lesley Morris, Head of Design Skills and Director of the Design Skills Alliance at the Design Council

"The key test of any Sector Skills Council is whether they have the support of the employers, and our sector is thoroughly supportive. Creative & Cultural Skills have helped us cut through the red tape to deliver us exactly what we need."

Mark Taylor, Director, Museums Association
