Creative & Cultural Skills
09 November 2009
At Creative & Cultural Skills’ Annual General Meeting in September, Tony Hall, Chief Executive, Royal Opera House, stood down from his role of Chairman of Creative & Cultural Skills, a position he has held since he founded the organisation in 2004.
Hall said: ‘After serving the maximum term as the Chairman of Trustees, building a dynamic, credible and improving Sector Skills Council, I feel now is the right time to be handing the baton on. I look forward to leading the Patrons group for Creative & Cultural Skills and will continue to take an active interest in the future, not least linking cultural skills to the legacy of the 2012 Olympics.’
In his six years as Chairman, Creative & Cultural Skills has seen significant growth, including the following achievements:
- The Creative & Cultural National Skills Academy, leveraging £20 million of additional investment
- A new programme of Creative Apprenticeships, to be delivered by a new Apprenticeship training service within the NSA, which will diversify the way the sector recruits talent and secure 1124 Apprenticeship places over three years
- Comprehensive careers advice for the sector through www.creative-choices.co.uk with over 190,000 unique users since last year
- In-depth research in to the skills needs of the sector in the form of the Creative Blueprint, helping to shape skills policy
- The first ever reform of qualifications in response to the needs of employers throughout the creative and cultural sector.
Tom Bewick, Group Chief Executive, Creative & Cultural Skills, said: ‘Without Tony, Creative & Cultural Skills might never have happened. We have achieved a great deal through his good governance and I am extremely proud of the organisation we have created together over the past six years. We will carry on his good work, and continue delivering the operational priorities that matter to the sector.’
Tony Hall is moving on to Chair the Cultural Olympiad in the run up to the 2012 Olympics, and will also Chair a new Patrons Group for Creative & Cultural Skills. Creative & Cultural Skills will be recruiting new Board members in January 2010, including a new Chair. In the meantime, David Worthington, currently Vice-Chairman, steps up as the acting Chair.
