National Skills Academy supported at PLASA show

8 September 2008

President of Live Nation UK, Paul Latham, has today spoken of his support for the National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural Skills at the PLASA08 show.

PLASA08 is the biggest trade show for live events technology professionals. Paul Latham is chair of the National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural Skills and believes the new resource for the industry can successfully address employment skills gaps and match the best talent onstage with the best backstage skills. Paul said: “I give the new National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural Skills my full support.  My aims for the National Skills Academy are to establish the largest possible network of employers and educators, officially recognised by the Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural Skills. This will in turn bring the most appropriate curricula to the student-base, thereby preparing them for future gainful employment. Within five years I would hope to have established over 4,000 recognised National Skills Academy apprenticeships across all disciplines and have a complementary network of international partnerships that would provide further opportunities for our skilled workforces.”

Paul Latham’s comments were made during the PLASA Awards for Innovation ceremony, which recognises the forward thinking that goes into new technologies serving the entertainment, event and communications industries. On behalf of PLASA, he presented cheques to both the National Student Drama Festival and SABA UKUNSIGNED Performance & Education - organisations that create learning opportunities for young people.

PLASA08 opened on Sunday 7 September at Earls Court in London and runs through to Wednesday 10 September.
