Creative & Cultural Skills creates over 100 jobs

Over one hundred young people in long term unemployment have found work in the creative and cultural sectors, thanks to an innovative programme delivered by Creative & Cultural Skills.

Government funding secured in 2009 has provided 113 young people aged between 18 and 24 with six-month paid positions at leading UK arts organisations, including the Ambassador Theatre Group, Wales Millennium Centre, Live Nation and the Science Museum.

Top Welsh cultural employers deliver next generation of world-class Apprentices

Creative & Cultural Skills has launched an exciting new programme at the Wales Millennium Centre to provide over 50 Apprenticeship places in the sector, thanks to a significant government investment of over £500,000. 

Funding has been made available through the European Social Fund (ESF) via the Sector Priority Funding Pilot (SPFP).

The Cultural Leadership Programme, in partnership with Creative Choices°, has published ‘A cultural leadership reader’, bringing together key articles and book reviews that focus on the importance of leadership for mid-career and senior professionals in the creative and cultural industries.

UK Design Alliance steps up a gear

Creative & Cultural Skills and the Design Council are encouraging design sector organisations to pull together to achieve better-trained industry.

The UK Design Alliance, a partnership set up to achieve this aim, is stepping up a gear this week, as David Worthington takes on the role of Chair, and Julian Grice, CEO of The Team, joins David as Vice Chair.

Strong partnerships called for between education and creative sector

The 5th National 'Supporting Creative Industries Conference' took place at the Barbican on June 15th. Supported by Creative & Cultural Skills, DCMS, BIS, Universities UK, Skillset and the Association of Colleges, the conference attracted over 150 representatives from the education sector.

National Skills Academy joins national celebration of vocational qualifications

The National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural has taken part in the UK’s second annual VQ Day, which celebrates the contribution made by vocational qualifications across the country.

New investment in heritage skills

The Heritage Lottery Fund has announced an investment of £17 million in to skills in the heritage sector, supporting traditional conservation training and a wide variety of more contemporary skills.

New Apprenticeships in Scotland

New funding is giving four talented people an opportunity to do a Creative Apprenticeship in Scotland. The Apprentices are supported by a wage subsidy from the Scottish Arts Council, awarded to four arts organisations that would otherwise find it difficult to fund an Apprenticeship.

Working in partnership with Creative & Cultural Skills, UK Music has launched a Skills Audit which seeks to understand and anticipate potential skills gaps across the commercial music sector.

New Jewellery and Craft National Occupational Standards ready for use

MillinerWe’re pleased to announce two new sets of National Occupational Standards, one for Jewellery Manufacture, Silversmithing and Allied Trades, and another for Craft.

Museums, Libraries and Archives Council funding - third round now open

Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) has pledged funding for up to 50 Apprenticeships in museums across England over the next two years. The new funding will provide £5,000 for each year of the Apprentice’s employment.

Are you a creative business looking for a graduate intern?

Check out the University for the Creative Arts' Graduate Internship Project, which offers creative businesses in the south east of England £1000 to take on an intern for ten weeks. The employer will need to make up the salary to national minimum wage. Places are limited - apply by 30 September 2010.
